iSchool Students of the Global Majority (iSGM) is a student-led group of IBPOC at UBC’s School of Information.

iSGM manages a yearly mentorship initiative to create a network of support for our members. The scope of our program generates opportunities for iSchool IBPOC/racialized students by pairing and supporting a professional-student mentorship opportunity.

We are able to support mentorship pairs in the following ways:

  • Initial pairings of IBPOC professionals with current IBPOC iSchool students.
  • Stipends for coffee / tea meet ups between mentor-mentee pairs.*
  • Stipends for pairs to visit LAIS relevant organizations/institutions requiring admission fees.*
  • Full or partial funding for mentor-mentee attendance of LAIS conferences or workshops.*
  • …and more! If you have a request, we will try our best to accommodate.

*Please note that stipends are funding-dependent, we will provide more details when matches have been made.

We acknowledge the support of the UBC Anti-Racism fund.
