A Support Circle for Scholarship, Awards and Anti-Poverty

Contact iSGM for details!

This is a support circle for students navigating the murky swamps of scholarships, awards, loans, bursaries and grants, as well as other sources of funding, income and financially gate-kept opportunities.

In the short term, we meet to co-create a sustainable space that might help lift the stigma around talking about money openly in our communities, and share collective wisdom as strategies to more nimbly move forward, as mortals in need of money.

Over time, in the long-term, at the varied pace each mortal feels equipped for, Mondays for Mortals might uncover entry-points to consider and enact what’s collectively needed to abolish poverty.

I started this up as a means to share resources, feedback, peer-support and news of financial aid opportunities with other students/prospective students. If you’d like to have a dedicated place, time and group of peers to work with on your scholarship/award (or other kinds of financial support mentioned or not above) applications together with, you’re welcome to join us and help build up our community.

With so many organizations, varied application periods, and easy-to-miss announcements for education funding opportunities, I personally find it a bit daunting to keep up with as an individual. I’ve been successful in applying for and receiving awards and scholarships in the past during my undergraduate degree, but previously had self-rejected my application (i.e. gave-up on the idea of applying) assuming I wasn’t one of those students who’d qualify for and be evaluated as a good candidate for scholarships and awards.

Now that I’m starting grad school, I’d love to connect with other students who want to work in tandem on money matters, as we create a shared and generative experience out of the time and effort needed to apply and sustain ourselves.

As a community of people looking to make our lives and education more sustainable and less financially exhausting, we can collectively support each other through the mazes of applications, in the hopes of paying some bills and freeing up bandwidth to make time for the people, play and rest we all deserve.
